Facebook on Thursday announced that it has changed its company name to Meta. It was announced on During Facebook's Connect event on Thursday, by CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

It’s a part of establishing company’s footprint beyond present social media to a virtual reality enabled environment for connecting people.

“Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said.

Facebook website describes  Meta as “The metaverse is the next evolution of social connection. Our company’s vision is to help bring the metaverse to life, so we are changing our name to reflect our commitment to this future”.
